Iowa United FC 2025-26 Tryouts
Tryouts for 2025-2026 will be held May 27–June 16 depending upon the age level. Players with birth years from 2007–2015 are invited to tryout for our 11-19U Select Program! Tryouts are free and each participant receives a free practice jersey.

What to expect at tryouts?
For each tryout, we ask that the players play hard and listen to the coaches and have fun. We want this to be a positive experience. They should treat it as a practice. We will likely do less coaching than we would at a normal practice, to observe and assess where they are currently. The player will be asked to perform a variety of soccer activities. Players should be prepared for small sides games (3v3, 4v4 or 5v5) at each tryout.
We are evaluating four main areas:
1 - Technical: dribbling, passing, receiving, shooting
2 - Tactical: attacking awareness, defensive awareness and overall decision-making
3 - Physical: speed, strength, balance, endurance
4 - Psychological: attitude, effort, competitive, openminded and coachable
Goalkeepers will be included in some of the activities, however, in most activities all the players will be considered field players. Goal keepers are more of consideration with 13U+ age groups and may not be focused on at the 11/12U level.
What happens after tryouts?
After tryouts are finished, Iowa United will compile the evaluations to render a decision for each age group by bid day(s). Several alternate players may be identified in this process. Depending on which players register, and the results of our evaluations at tryouts, we will look to form a team and place them at the appropriate division within Iowa Soccer State League.
11-14U Bid Did is June 11 - 8am to 8pm
15-19U Bid Day is June 18 - 8am to 8pm
If your player receives a bid, please keep the following in mind:
- Registration is for the seasonal year (both fall and spring seasons) for players 11-15U
- Registration for players 16U+ is for the fall season only
- There will be different payment options to select from.
- There will be 6-10 games per season with two tournament opportunities person (one in the Des Moines area, and one out-of town) for a total of 4 tournaments in the 2025-2026 season.
- 11-12U Teams may practice twice a week
- 13U+ Teams practice up to 3 times a week
